Question: what are feelings? Can you say something about how they arise and what is their significance?
~~~
Feelings are phenomenal events. Meaning they are appearances that arise and dissolve in awareness, in the aware presence that knows them. The I am That I am.
These phenomenal events, feelings, arise as personal me–impressions, personal me-thoughts and me-sensations. Feelings maintain the impression of a separate limited person with personal issues.
Feelings arise as a result of the belief that I am a separate individual. Without the belief that I (infinite consciousness), is a limited personal consciousness, without the belief that I (infinite consciousness) depend on the body mind, there are no feelings.
So one could say that feelings are bodily, sensory expressions of the belief that I am a mortal body mind. Once this belief is established, all sorts of feelings follow
I may feel happy, sad, angry, hurt, depressed etc. as a result of the belief that I am a separate mortal body mind.
This belief leads to the impression that I am subject to circumstances, situations, relationships, and that my happiness depends on phenomenal events.
It is important to understand that there is no happiness at the feelings level.
There is no happiness as long as the belief that I am a mortal body mind is still on board, unexamined.
To become involved in improving or fixing feelings is a waste of your time.
Understanding the feelings dynamics may reveal the mechanism that is the cause of your unhappiness.
It is this understanding that may lead you beyond the roller coaster ride of feelings and into the lap of the Self eternal.
That I AM.
