Associate awareness with I as awareness and not with me as a body mind appearance.
Mistaking awareness to be mind is ignorance.
Although the substance of mind is awareness, awareness is its own substance and is not known via the mind. 
You know the tree. The tree does not know itself nor does it know you. 
Similarly you know the body mind. The body mind does not know you. 
You know yourself independent of knowing the tree, independent of knowing the mind. 
You are self knowing. 
All knowing.
