There is the realm of the body mind, the activities of thinking, feeling, sensing, perceiving. 
When we are relying on the materialistic model, we perceive a world made out of matter and objects. We perceive birth, death and transformation. We perceive that we are made out of matter, that we are a mortal body mind.
Whatever questions we pose from the point of view of the materialistic model, will be tainted by the belief in a material reality.

Thus, from the perspective of materialism, consciousness is not real, it is an experience that is generated by the brain.

Only upon making it beyond the gravitational field of materialism will you be able to apperceive consciousness as the reality of your very being and the one and only reality.
