Although we may understand that I refers to consciousness and not the body form, although we may understand that I am not the feelings nor the thoughts that are appearing, we may still experience resistance and seeking. We may still experience aversion and a sense of lack towards what is appearing. We may still experience contractions and unhappiness when certain experiences, feelings or situations appear. The understanding that I am consciousness, which is an important understanding does not remove the residual bodily habits and feelings, the old tendencies of seeking and resisting.
There is a body of contemplation post understanding that is essential for the full realization of the self.
