Appearance is all there is

Friend: If perhaps appearance is all there is. What need is there for anything more?
Reply: One could say: ‘appearance is all there is’.The question which follows would be: What is saying that?
Appearance does not say anything. Appearance does not say: ‘Appearance is all there is.’
Something is saying that. That something is whatever it is that perceives the appearance.
Therefore, the statement ‘appearance is all there is’ is an incorrect statement. It is an incomplete statement. There is more to it than that.
Or maybe less to it than that…
